Since 1996, the team behind the Sound of Light has been producing incredible shows and has become an integral part of the international of pyromusical circuit (fireworks synchronized to a soundtrack) of water, which takes place on the chessboard recreation and tourism Gatineau and the National Capital Region.
Made possible thanks to the support of a number of important sponsors, such as the Casino Lac-Leamy who has been the title sponsor of the event from its inception, and the loyalty of its spectators, the Sound of Light is, without a doubt, the most spectacular event of the summer season.
The Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light is the renewed vision of a solid production team, of its close collaborators, of hundreds of volunteers, of more dozens of sponsors and of a dynamic board of directors, all with close ties to their community.
The Sound of Light is produced by Les internationaux pyrotechniques de Gatineau (non-profit organization).
After 18 great years on the banks of Leamy Lake, the event that had reached its maturity and the events’ production team needed to develop a new vision for itself, which led them to consider moving the event to a new site.
Since August 2014, fireworks lovers from near and far will now have the chance to gather in the backyard of the Canadian Museum of History, as the Sound of Light shows are now launch above the Ottawa River. The event is now be presented in a world renowned setting and be able to benefit from the museum’s incredible infrastructures and great location. It’s one of the few rare spots in the downtown core to be served by both the STO and OC Transpo!
Over the years, the Sound of Light has built a reputation in the pyrotechnical industry as being one of the best fireworks event in the world. The best companies from all over the globe are proud to be selected to produce one of their shows in order to be able to claim one of the highest awards in their field, the Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light’s Zeus trophy.
This pyrotechnical extravaganza is made of shows from four international firms, who light up the sky over the Ottawa River in the hopes of being recognized as the best. The fireworks artists who create the Sound of Light shows are renowned pyrotechnical designers who have chosen an explosive medium, which includes many different shapes and sound effects to color the night sky. It is on the last and fifth evening of the event, the Casino Lac-Leamy’s Grande Finale, that the names of the teams, or sometimes a single team, that have been deemed the best by the jury and by the popular vote are finally revealed.
Since 2012, the production of all these colorful performances has been made possible thanks to the incredible work done by Yanick Roy and Royal Pyrotechnie.
Based out of Saint-Pie, Quebec, this family run business has been operating in the world of pyrotechnics for almost half a century. Their passionate and dedicated team has the experience and skills needed to meet the expectations of the Sound of Light spectators. Their sole mission is to design, prepare and produce fascinating shows that fill the audience with emotion.
The event beats to the rhythm of cultures, not only with the fireworks presented by the different international teams but also via its multicultural dance performances, up and coming local singing talent and street performers. Family games and activities, as well as great food trucks, are also on-hand for the pleasure of kids of all ages.

The Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light’s Zeus trophy is awarded each year on the night of the Grande Finale to the team whose workmanship has impressed the Sound of Light’s jury members.
The creation of Quebec artist André Fournelle is made of bronze and steel to symbolize the God of the sky, lightning and thunder as seen in Greek mythology.
